white house now says the troubled obama care website finally is working as it was intended to, but does that mean it is now fixed? let's go to our senior white house correspondent, jim acosta. what are they saying about healthcare.gov on this day, jim? >> reporter: at times it seemed like cybermonday for healthcare.gov as the retooled obama care website saw a crush of online shoppers, but the website placed many of them in what seemed like a virtual waiting room. after a frantic effort to create a new and improved healthcare.gov, the white house appeared to declare victory, sort of. >> the president believes that the site has been significantly improved. but the work is not done. >> reporter: case in point, as a whopping 800,000 visitors are estimated to surge on to the site today, many found not an error message but a new queueing system that allows users to leave an e-mail address so they can be contacted later with a better time to log on. >> is today sort of a cybermonday for healthcare.gov? is that going to be acceptable if that's the norm for a lot of people for an extended p

and now a shakeup in the white house. president obama's turning to a man who has been through it before, john podesta, who was chief of staff to bill clinton during his impeachment crisis. can he help steer another democratic president down a very bumpy road? let's begin our coverage with our senior white house correspondent, brianna keilar. brianna, tell us what podesta's role will be. >> reporter: his title, wolf, will be counselor to the president. it's a key advisory role and podesta is expected to be very influential. the deal that he struck with white house chief of staff dennis mcdonnough is to be at the white house for just one year, a sign of just how important president obama thinks 2014 will be to his legacy as he tries to tackle immigration reform and tries to get obama care back on track. failed gun legislation, stalled immigration reform. the government shutdown and one very, very bad health care reform rollout. his approval rating is at record lows. it's been a rough year for president obama and he needs to turn his presidency around. >> my friend john podesta -- >

that hard-won deal, at least potentially. jim sciutto is watching what's going on. i know the obama administration is very concerned what these members of the senate are planning on doing. >> no question. this puts congress on a direct collision course with the white house. as you know, they have been lobbying hard, the administration has been lobbying hard against it, secretary kerry, including sending a video message over the holidays arguing against sanctions, saying that will in effect scuttle this deal. what we're seeing now, that intense lobbying campaign appears to have fallen on deaf ears, even among members of the president's own party. with the ink barely dry on the historic nuclear deal with iran, today the iranian foreign minister pronounced it dead if congress passes more economic sanctions. the entire deal is dead, he told "time" magazine. we do not like to negotiate under duress. even so, sources tell cnn republican and democratic senators are close to doing exactly that, nearing agreement on a bill to impose new sanctions within six months unless iran ships all stock

president obama, and as you heard in the white house briefing room, he said nelson mandela is no longer with us, he is with the ages. president obama tried to visit nelson mandela over the summer when the president was traveling across africa. he was not able to do that, because nelson mandela was sick, but he was able to visit with the civil rights and anti-apartheid icon back in 2005 when barack obama was a member of the united states senate, and that was a meeting that has always stayed with p.m. many of the as a matter of fact arier this month he held a screening of a movie on nelson mandela's life here at the white house, where he also met with mandela's two daughters. >>> today he's gone home, lost one of the most inspirational, courageous, that any of us will share time with on this earth. >> the president of the united states speaking out. we've got some other guests, but mr. ambassador, you're here, you just heard jim acosta sources are now saying the president will go. the state funeral is on day ten of this period of mourning, the final day, right? that's when you expect most
